Mark King
Riviera Country Club #4
36" x 48" Acrylic on Canvas. Framed to 43" x 55"
Signed Bottom Right "Mark King"
Born in Bombay in 1931, Mark King has been painting since moving to
Paris and studying at the Ecole and the Louvre in 1961. In 1968 he moved to the United States and has since become world renowned for his wonderfully colorful and insightful impressionistic paintings. He has studied the techniques of Goya, Turner, and Degas, meticulously layering colors, glazes, and shapes, using a palette knife ninety percent of the time in order to achieve the texture and feel he wants for each of his works.
Since arriving in the United States, Mark became more exposed to sports and started painting the drama and visual spectacle of the action. His love of the outdoors fitted perfectly with the subjects of yacht racing, horse racing, and tennis. But arguably his greatest recognition has come from his capturing the colors surrounding some of the greatest holes in golf. This painting is no exception.
Painted in 1989, Riviera Country Club #4, was originally sold through
the Martin Lawrence Galleries. This wonderful masterpiece is sizeable enough to be the centerpiece of any home or collection. It is bright, colorful, and a perfect example of this modern master's talent. The painting is in excellent condition and ready to be displayed in the home of the golf aficionado or someone who simply loves wonderful art.
Mark King continues to paint today. However, in my opinion, his paintings from the mid 1980s through the mid 1990s, and in particular his golf paintings, are the best and most collectible of his extensive body of work. This painting is no exception. Best of all, I'm offering this masterpiece at about 75% of the original selling price.
