Boris Vallejo's impact in the world of illustration and fine art can not be overstated. From book covers and calendars to the walls of the most prestigious collections, Boris has been a force in the art world for the past 30 or so years.
This painting was published as the centerfold in Boris' 1993 Mythology Calendar. From the calendar published by Workman Publishing, based on "In Chilean mythology, the Cherufe was a gigantic, fabulous lava-creature who lived in volcanoes and fed upon young maidens. In order to keep this fiery creature from annihilating the local population, the Sun god sent his two warrior daughters to guard the Cherufe with magic swords capable of freezing him. But occasionally he would make an escape-thereby creating volcanic eruptions."
The painting is in excellent condition with bright colors and wonderful detail. A very nice copy of the 1993 calendar is included with the sale of the painting.
