Howell Dodd
16" x 17" Gouache en grisaille Art Board. Matted and Framed to 22" x 23"
Initialed Lower Left "HD"
Howell Dodd was born in 1910. He is well known for his illustrations and pulp-like images that graced the detective and adventure magazines of the 1940s and 1950s.
This wonderful painting was executed sometime around 1950, probably for a men's magazine of the period. It is a great example of Dodd's style, full of detail, passion and an underlying eroticism, and larger than his average work. After all these years, it is still bright, clean, and in excellent condition.
