Initialed Lower Left "HD"
Howell Dodd was was born in 1910. He is well known for his illustrations and pulp-like images that graced the detective and adventure magazines of the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s.
This wonderful painting was executed most likely in 1962. It was published as an illustration for the story, "War and Women Are the Only Things I Care About!" in the October 1962 issue of A-OK for Men magazine. It is a great example of Dodd's style, full of detail, passion and an underlying eroticism, and larger than his average work. After all these years, it is still bright, clean, and in excellent condition.
A nice copy of the magazine in which the illustration was published, as shown below, is included in this auction.
