Howell Dodd was was born in 1910.  He is well known for his illustrations and pulp-like images that graced the detective and adventure magazines of the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s.

I examined the artwork out of the frame and the paper appears to have been once mounted, as was common many years ago.  But except for some fade to light yellow, the paper and artwork are still in excellent shape.  All acid free materials are now used to display this wonderful piece.

This wonderful drawing was executed most likely in 1962.  It was published as an illustration for the story, "Prison of SS Girls" in the January 1963 issue of A-OK for Men magazine.  It is a great example of Dodd's style, full of detail, passion and an underlying eroticism, and larger than his average work.

A nice copy of the magazine (minus the cut cover) in which the illustration was published, as shown below, is included in this auction.
